Big Boy Seat!!

Even though we aren't sure of Grayson's current weight and length, we know he is growing so much! His first car seat became embarrasingly too small. And anyone who saw our little guy scrunched up in there would feel sorry for him. Besides, we have no doubt he was nearing (if not already exceeding) the weight limit of his car seat. So, we ran out and bought him a Big Boy Car Seat! Honestly, we didn't envision having to do this until he was 6 months or so, but we had no choice. Again, as we did everything else we bought, we did a lot of research. After looking online, reading reviews, and talking to people, we chose a Britax Roundabout. Expensive, yes. Worth the money, definitely.

It is a very nice car seat. I especially love how cushiony it is. The belts are easy to work, and the velcro holders on the side are a nice touch. Grayson has plenty of room in this seat. This chair slightly reclines (designed for napping), but we keep it in that position because G is not 6+ months old the way most kids are when they graduate to this size car seat! Being only a little over 3 months and having to sit upright (rather than lying down) is asking a lot, I think. But Gray is adjusting well. He stays awake more than he used to during rides, which is okay because he enjoys riding. And when he does feel a need to catch some zzz's, he does (with the help a rolled blanket helping support his head). That blanket won't be necessary much longer. Grayson's head isn't too wobbly anymore because his neck is getting stronger and stronger.

Now one thing that really takes some getting used to about the new car seat is the fact that Grayson has to come out of it everywhere we go! His first car seat could be taken out of the car and placed on his stroller. 9 times out of 10, his sleep wasn't at all interrupted when we'd make stop after stop. But his new car seat is huge. Again, it is a Big Boy Seat! It has to stay in the car. It is too heavy and cumbersome to take out and carry around...and it would be impossible (and unsafe really) to carry it with him in it! SO, every time we stop (even if only to run in the store for one thing), we have to take Grayson out of his seat and put him into his stroller. Oh, and by the way, it isn't the Snap-N-Go that we were using (which held his old car seat). That thing has found a new home. We're using his Big Boy Stroller too!

By the way, the same thing is with his Big Boy Stroller! It reclines back (designed for napping), but it doesn't lay flat. That is because the stroller is designed for a toddler who usually sits up and just needs it reclined when they are tired. When we pushed Gray around in his Snap-N-Go, he always faced us. But with his new stroller, he's facing out. Again, that is because no toddler stroller faces the person pushing! That is something else to get used to. To check to make sure he's okay, I often push the stroller and walk beside it. Ray's method is to stay behind the stroller pushing it but to stand on his tip toes and pull the shade back as far as he can to get a look. Grayson is doing a very good job adjusting to his new car seat and his stroller. And Mommy and Daddy - well, we're figuring it out. ;)

Do you get the theme here?! Big Boy stuff!!! :)

GKT riding in his Big Boy Seat that is comfortable and big enough to accommodate those long legs and active feeties!
