cool mist therapy

.
When the pediatrician told us he thought a cool mist humidifier in Grayson's room would really help our little guy be more comfortable while he has a cold, we dug ours out right away! Fortunately, it had not been used since the last time Gray had a cold LAST WINTER!
.
The doctor was right! It seems to help Grayson breathe easier. Also, it makes a nice misting sound. It's hard to explain. You'd have to hear it.
.
Anyway, when we hooked it up, Gray was very interested in it (as we expected him to be). Our biggest concern was that he might try to unplug it or somehow get to the water in the tank. Needless to say, water and electricity can be a deadly mix.
.
We were sure to watch him very carefully. The worst thing he did was try to stick his finger in the hole where the mist blows from. Honestly, I don't think that is dangerous. I don't think there's anything there that could hurt him. But we told him not to do it. You shouldn't ever stick your fingers in holes you are uncertain about.
.
While Ray was setting it up, he put his hand and then his face in front of the blower to see if he could feel the mist. Gray saw him do this and copied him. Monkey see, monkey do! ;) When Grayson sees the humidifier in his room and run towards it, we watch to make sure he doesn't want to do something to/with it that could harm him. So far, we've been relieved every time. He has no interest in touching it, moving it, picking it up, or anything. All the wants to do is stand in front of it and bend down so the cool mist blows him in the face (just like his Dad taught him). As he stands there with that cool mist hitting him, he partially closes his eyes, breathes in and smiles. It is so funny to see! At first, I was tempted to tell him not to get so close, but I didn't. After all, that cool mist is good for him. And if he's willing to take a bigger, direct dose of it, that just helps him breathe better! :)
.
Spray away Grayson's cold I say! :)
